For many years, there has been no more avid — and involved — supporter of SHS athletics than Cathy Dodge ’65. She has invested untold hours in raising significant sums of money for the school’s various athletic programs. Her current major project: leading development of a multi-use field house that is due for completion in 2006. The SHS Athletic Boosters organization was formed in 1988, and Cathy served a year as the group’s first president. Currently, she is serving her second term as president — and this term is now in its sixth year. In addition, Cathy has served as head statistician for the SHS girls’ basketball program for 26 years. Observes a fellow alum, “Cathy has been relentless and tireless in supporting SHS athletics and the students who have participated in sports during her years of leadership. Her work has enriched the lives of hundreds of SHS students.” This involvement comes as no surprise to those who have known Cathy since her days at SHS when she served as an officer in the Girls Athletic Association and was a member of the Pep Club. Cathy also has been actively involved in the community, serving as a Girl Scout leader for 18 years, as president of the Shelby Girls Softball League as well as coaching league teams, and has taught Sunday School at the First Lutheran Church. In more recent years, she has expanded her involvement with SHS, serving on the Board of Trustees of the SHS Alumni Association and filling numerous volunteer roles during multi-class reunions. Cathy lives in Shelby.
Nominator: Mike Johnson ’63 who lives in North Canton, Ohio.
