E. Grant Dowds, M.D. ’48

Grant Dowds ’48 spent a lifetime serving the people of Shelby. After graduating from SHS, he earned his bachelor’s degree from Ohio Wesleyan and his M.D. from Case Institute of Technology (now Case Western Reserve University).

He was an Air Force veteran.

He practiced medicine in Shelby from 1961 to 1995. His interest in and support of Shelby schools was evidenced by his serving on the Shelby Schools Board of Education from 1962 to 1982.

While at SHS, Grant played football, and his love for sports showed in his serving as Whippets team physician for 30 years. He also served as medical director of Heritage and Crestwood Care Centers for 10 years. He died on September 1, 2005.
